We started pulling the plaster out upstairs and discovered why the roof did not appear to be leaking. The water from the room was being absorbed in the fiberglass insulation. New roof in order for sure.

We also discovered that under the white cottage style moldings around the windows upstairs is a simpler older window molding pattern which is undoubtedly original. In addition we uncovered the original beaded baseboard moldings which give the rooms more architectural detail and interest. In general removing the 1940s walls plaster over mud walls which while not exactly plumb in all places were nonetheless much more authentic and pretty in the house.
